IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN -- Just A Minute Radio for Monday Dec. 28, 2009

Congratulations… we’ve made it this far together!

Yep… as we get down to those last few days in the year – I start thinking about the things I didn’t get done so far this year… and most of those jobs are ‘hopeless’ to do between now and midnight on Thursday.  I’m not sure I really had a *plan* (it seems I usually don’t) and then there are the forms the government requires… when you’re born – when you die [somebody else has to do that] and when you buy or sell property, pay your taxes… or fail to and it looks as if the bottomless pits of the government’s paper bins feeding into the printing presses will never run out… except of course for the greenbacks – of which there is always month left over at the end of… (the money!)

So… are you looking forward to the coming year?  Or….??  Probably more ??? than !!!  At least that’s the reading I’ve been getting from the radio, TV and news media.  Jimmy Carter used to talk about ‘malaise’ – I don’t think that’s it… but before 2012 election time rolls around I expect someone will come up with a catchy name for it.  I’m kinda tired of the “the Great Depression” aren’t you?  It seems more than a little shopworn.

One of my old friends from college days has given up on any of us who ID ourselves as Republicans… or at least some of us… And I judge he has some reasonable reasons for his brand of ‘malaise’ – but if I were inclined to try and effect a correction in attitude, I don’t think I could make much of a dint.  I notice Peggy Noonan, who wrote off George Bush fairly early in his second term hasn’t appreciably changed her attitude.  She’s not climbing in the Obama lifeboat as yet – but she seems to be wearing one of his life jackets… and thereby hopes to keep afloat I suppose.

It’s pretty hard in this “malaisy” period between years, of a first term presidency which does not have a track record dripping with experience; and when we are being lead by the Pelosi, Reid, Obama triumvirate, to calculate just where we might wash up on a friendly island or sandy beach considering the storm clouds that have been chasing the Republic for quite a few months now.

I spent a few hours Sunday afternoon, re-reading and trying to develop my own outline of the last five chapters of the book of The Revelation. It’s fascinating, Although I’ve read through that portion of the Bible quite a few times, I never recall being as mystified by some of the prophecies there or particular circumstances in the setting of current events and recent history.  I venture nothing new in my predictions… I’m just trying to keep up with current events.  Perhaps you’d like to share some of your ideas… the comment options below this posting are open.  I just ask you to be as brief as possible and cogent.

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN

Just A MinuteI know it’s time to transish – that is take down the Christmas decorations, rustle up the resolutions, and climb on the bathroom scale to see what needs to be done about that accumulated holiday poundage. But more importantly, it is a time to take stock; take a look back and if possible get a look ahead.

Oh… and I’m sorry our specially prepared Christmas program didn’t get on the air Friday.

BB: At’s rite Mr. Jack whut happened.

MizP: Ah want ta' know too.

Jack: Well… nobody informed me I had to get a program in ahead of my usual time because the automation system would take over and run things on Christmas Eve.

Homer: And the automation system don’t answer the Telephone?

Jack: It answers… but there’s no-one there to take the call – So Christmas greetings just have to wait’ll next year -- So I’m winding up today’s Just A Minute, suggesting you get your Bible and read, say the last five chapters of the book of The Revelation. Which will do you more good than anything else.  It ends with these words: “Surely I come quickly.  Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”   <>I’m Jack Buttram
