Good Morning… there may be snow on the ground where you are…
But we’re in pretty good shape here at the home place. No snow here… or so little we couldn’t tell. We did have a modicum of sleet… but even that was slight. However the heavy rain and the wind that accompanied it downed some trees and accompanying power lines… but that was about all in the middle part of our County.
However, up toward the mountains things were quite different… and even more striking further north. The most serious thing we saw (we missed all the car and truck crackups thankfully) was the Amtrack morning southbound which usually arrives here about 5:45 AM going by full speed at around 3:30PM Sunday afternoon… it was, I suppose, yesterday’s train… but we’ll let that pass.
From the info I saw on the tube… all flights were cancelled for a while from Dulles, BWI, Reagan and other major airports northward for quite a span. So I guess trains don’t *always* get through when the planes aren’t flying.
What seemed to be most contrasting to the average observer was the continued rattle of meaningless news about the Copenhagen summit on *Global Warming* coming before winter ever got here this year… and during the middle of record breaking snowfall for December in the Carolinas and I’m sure parts of the Virginias and northwards… But you can never be sure about those weather boys… or the weather scientists – you “pays your money and takes your choice.” As the old countrymen used to say – or perhaps it was more just a game of ‘heads or tails.’
Winter does officially arrive tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at 12:46 EST … according to the Almanac. That’s when the Sun appears to cross that line drawn in the sky by Galileo – one the astronomers call the ‘winter solstice’ – the sun getting further-est north and beginning its return to the South.
Now it’s no use telling the children the sun doesn’t move… because any three year old can see it does… but very slowly… So are you going to believe what Grandpa tells you… or your own lyin’ eyes? (J)
Have a great day… see you Wednesday!
Cordially, IN HIM
Jack

“JUST A MINUTE”
THE DEED IS DONE – NOW FOR THE PIECES
Just A Minute – I’ve been desperately trying to come up with a positive spin on Senator Ben Nelson’s very public cave-in to the arm-twisting of his own political party – but so far, it’s a dry run.
Senator Nelson was Governor of Nebraska for two terms during which he cut taxes, never mentioned he was a Democrat unless asked directly, and lost to Chuck Hagel in 1996. He often mentions his state’s “bipartisan approach” to politics and up to now consistently opposed abortion.
But now, despite pleas by the Governor not to vote for ObamaCare, he suddenly discovers ‘sufficient’ modifications to change his vote from nay to yea. Frankly, I cannot comprehend how one ‘compromises’ a stand on abortion. You’re either for killing the baby or saving it. Even King Solomon could manage no other result.
Since more than 90 percent of Nebraskans poll as disapproving the measure, Senator Nelson now stands first in the line to ‘walk the plank’ for Obama.
