HOLD ON THAR QUICK DRAW ! -- Just A Minute Radio for Monday October 26, 2009

Good Day… it’s Monday… and we’re starting off fine…

We started off the promo this morning reminding people (of a certain age) of the ‘olden’ days of Radio… [some think of it as the Golden Days … I guess that includes me. I grew up with Jack Armstrong the All American Boy… and the Lone Ranger… and Terry and the Pirates… Oh… I’m sorry… fell off into the nostalgia pond again. Sorry about that.

Anyway … the headline this morning came from a TV cartoon… but our boys were quite small when “Quick Draw McGraw – and Deputy Dawg” were high entertainment on Mr. Monty’s “Lil’Rascals “ local  black and white TV program… at least I think that’s where they were… I know it wasn’t silent black and white… But life was quite a bit simpler… and we were quite a bit younger.

“The Breakfast Club”… I think you can still find clips on the Internet from a couple of seasons when they tried to make it go on TV… but the things that “worked well” on radio… well… they were just too tame for the big eye box… and so things progressed. --- Or did they? I’m glad Mr. Rogers came along… and Mr. Green Jeans with Capt. Kangaroo… but for the most part … well.  As you can surmise… I don’t see a lot of TV entertainment…mainly because there isn’t much as far as I can tell.  But… we’re on the radio… and that’s where I’m happy. I think it’s good for the nation too… that we have that medium available… Otherwise… We’d probably have to go back to Boston Harbor and stage a tea-party on our own… and that would be a lot harder. (L)…

We of a “certain age” will just have to content ourselves with reading Beatrix Potter’s tales of Peter Rabbit and the Gardner… and simple things like that. Although I believe reading to the kids… especially the little ones --  is one of the most rejuvenating things we ‘seniors’ can do… It’s just tough to get the world to slow down enough so I can get on without breaking an ankle.

Have a great Monday everybody… If we look to the Lord… everything’s going to come out right. If we don’t… it won’t! There’s something like 7000 or so years of recorded history to back that up. (J) You can check it out… You have one of those books around… it may have some dust on it if nobody’s touched it lately.  Good idea to check it out.

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

HOLD ON THAR ‘QUICK DRAW’!

Just a Minute: Sarah Palin, joined the upstate New York fray on Thursday by doing what Newt Gingrich was afraid to do – Endorse Conservative Doug Hoffman over Republican Dede Scozzafava in a special election for New  York’s 23rd Congressional District.

Old line Republicans had largely lined up behind Republican Dede Scozzafava, despite the fact her voting record as a state legislator put her well to the left most Democrats there. Others who joined Ms. Palin are former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, Fred Thompson, and Rep. Michelle Bachman of Minnesota, all backing Conservative Doug Hoffman.

The former Alaska Governor – running mate to John McCain – pointed out Ms. Scozzafava was selected by county chairmen and not by a primary vote.  She wrote to her Facebook supporters when she announced her decision: "Unfortunately, the Republican Party today has decided to choose a candidate [who] … blurs the lines, and there is no real difference between the Democrat and the Republican … [that’s] why Doug Hoffman is running on the Conservative Party's ticket."

Way to go Sarah… keep it up.!

          <> I’m Jack Buttram.
