Great Day – it’s MONDAY…. I know you’re excited about that… the TV is playing loudly!

Here’s news out of Washington: Sometimes people don’t tell the *whole* truth.

Here’s news of Hollywood: Sometimes people think they’re too big to fail… or be arrested … or put in Jail – and besides that it was 30 years ago.

Here’s the news out of Chicago: Jeremiah who?  Acorn what?  I was a neighborhood organizer – until it wasn’t really smart for me to be a neighborhood organizer any more.

Here’s the news out of New Yorkkkkk….

(Off stage) Turn off that TV – wide screen or not.  You can’t trust what *anybody* on it says any more.

 

Well… turns out it’s time to go for some ‘truth in labeling’ – Maybe it’s time to do more reading, assembling and assimilating the facts, trends and trustworthy information – and do your own thinking.

It’s strange, but people will do almost anything in these times in order to have someone else do their thinking for them. It ranges from joining a book club – having a panel to make choices – to signing with a mutual fund so someone else can be blamed for picking the wrong stocks.  America I suppose will have to experience  enough discomfort at the hands of others to get back in the groove of making their own decisions – and entertaining a word that’s getting a lot of use these days – ACCOUNTABILITY!

No need for me to go off on a tangent about that. It ranges from *everybody* wanting it to *nobody* wanting it – and all points in between.  Let’s pray we get it right!

“JUST A MINUTE”

HISTORY INCOMPLETE

Just A Minute – Revealing half-truth, is far more dangerous than flat-out lying.  Now comes an admittedly ‘incomplete’ account about President Clinton with  Branch Taylor’s book, “Wrestling History with the President.” The Clinton-friendly Washington Post says it’s Clinton History, “with a few pages missing.”

That’s typical political news these days.  I deviate from commentary today to just plain old-fashioned complaining.  Taylor’s book, doesn’t profess to ‘ tell the truth and nothing but the truth’ – but presents an excerpt of tapes the President invited Taylor to make.  He just skips the “Lewinsky” affair and so contributes to “skewed” political reporting everybody distrusts nowadays. 

Roman Polanski’s arrest for raping a child – attracts scores of Hollywood apologists who are mostly without clean hands themselves.  A TV late-night host makes multiple jokes, with impunity, about a political candidate’s teen-aged child’s unwed pregnancy, while - it now develops - he’s simultaneously  engaged in lengthy and shameless immorality. 

I’ll defer to another day to point out our national disease of becoming “rotten” to the core. But meantime, Christian believers let us pray for genuine repentance and righteousness.
