HIT'S TH' GREATEST THANG! - Just A Minute for Wednesday Sept. 02, 2009

A great BIG Howdy -- sorry we been slow to get here.

Some times *nothin’* goes right. Sunday night was one of those ‘days’ – my faithful printer of 3.6 years – died suddenly on Sunday evening after church. I couldn’t coax anything out of it… but a couple of grumpy bumps. It had been pretty faithful for three plus years… but the ‘troubleshooting’ program said something was wrong with the spooler circuit. (I guess it’s a circuit… don’t think there’s much mechanical about a device that stores up extra messages waiting for the print queue to clear.)  That’s odd.. I never realized the word indicating like people standing in line for tickets was spelled with two ‘e’s … but there it is… the spell checker says so and I don’t want to take time to look it up… but I will sometime soon.

So… after much machinations I purchased another one – which I hope will last more than three + years … (but frankly I doubt it… electronics seems to be imitating the paper cup industry – you use it a while and then throw it away – or to satisfy all the greenies in the audience… you ‘recycle’ it.)

Therefore I replaced the single function piece of equipment with a four function (all in one) machine which combines Printer, Fax, Scanner and Copier. That means when it quits… I’ve got FOUR machines in the office that aren’t working… and since the thing also incorporates its own telephone with a speed dial set up… I guess I’ve actually got four machines now resting. (L) I’m not sure I like this. I like things plain and simple… but it seems the world is on another course. The New iPhones from AT&T will almost cook dinner for you if – maybe they will if you have the stove set up correctly – or would that really be a microwave backed up by a coffee maker and a George Foreman grille. Anyway… as I said life is getting too complicated … that makes me a full-fledged ‘geezer’ I think.

Thus the script for this program got posted *late* -- sorry about that… I was just glad to get it on the air at all. It would have been dead air… much to my chagrin *except* my grandson Jonathan Buttram said why don’t you put it on your ‘flash drive’ and you can take it over to the station that way. And of course I could! (It only took me an hour and a half overnight to figure out how to do it.) But at least there’s a sense of accomplishment.  [Gimme back my boots and saddle – Ah’m headed fer th’ old corrale.]

            See you Friday … I hope…

            Cordially, IN HIM

            JACK
