Hello at the beginning of the week –
Lots of happenings Friday, Saturday, Sunday even today… Hard to keep up with everything and we really don’t want to get in the big political rally syndrome so far away from election time. But sometimes there are emergencies – even in a Republic such as ours. (J) And even with such results as were seen over this past weekend.
Lots of people were worried…and now I think (and hope) it’s yet another class of people who are worried – essentially the politicos who seem to think the American people don’t care any more. All of a sudden something more than 75 thousand (according to the Fire and Rescue people in
Well, you had to know the ‘other side’ was going to say it was a piddlin’ bunch… but the evidence was too much – so the fall-back position was to be critical of the mood of the crowd… and that won’t work either because it was a crowd that came to Washington from all over America. Major news papers said there were people from all 50 states. I guess that includes
And several of the news organizations – not grumpy Jack of CNN of course – but some of the others said the theme was not particularly partisan or political as much as it was simply an outpouring of sentiment that the American people don’t want to be taxed more so the government bloviators can spend more. They seemed to be voting with their feet and baby strollers and funny hats and homemade signs, in what one reportcalled a semi-festival air. They are fed-up with bloated bureaucracy – earmarks – and a down my nose attitude -- we know better than you do what’s good for you – The ground has shifted under our feet… the earthquake is here!
It may be a little premature to say that’s everything that’s happened… but something sure has, and if I were an office-holder whose place in the sun depends upon staying upright on this shifting terrain – I’d think about figuring out how to meet the needs, desires and mood of the electorate post haste.
We’ll have to wait until another day to talk about the ACORN crop this year.
Cordially, IN HIM
Jack

“JUST A MINUTE”
THE GROUND HAS SHIFTED
Just A Minute – Panic-stricken TV anchors on Saturday looked like a kid with his hand in the cookie-jar. I fully expected one TV anchor to say – “Well are you going to believe me – or your lyin’ eyes.”
An early New York Times report, I never could find, said only 500 people showed up on Capitol Hill. The C-Span shots showed huge crowds on the west lawn and the mall. Even CNN rooftop shots saw jammed streets.
South Carolina’s own Senator, Jim DeMint, set off what the Wall St. Journal said was a ‘roaring wave of applause’ when he cried out from the speaker’s platform "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Waterloo!"
It was a beautiful day in D.C., Mr. Obama was out in
Now – can this momentum be maintained?
