CODE BLUE FROM THE E.R. - Just a Minute Radio for Friday Sept. 04, 2009

            Howdy – indeed it is FRIDAY and I’m chastened to find out I spelled corral on Wednesday with an “e” when there is none…

 

            I think I flunked spelling in the 3^rd grade… that’s why I chose radio over news writing… Radio doesn’t care how it’s spelled if you can pronounce it correctly. Also you don’t have to worry about makeup, costumes, curtains, lights and all that stuff. It’s *all* in the mind. Indeed some of the TV talking heads would be improved if TV had an improved ‘photo-shop’ program – but they still can’t seem to get the elocution right. It’s just because of the let down in training. – Somewhat like spelling… it takes practice.

 

            Speaking of practice… I’ve heard the analogy of Dr. Obama having to do major surgery on his program, and plan … since he’s only been in office something like 243 days and the only modern presidents to have experienced the sudden decline in popularity equal or greater than he has are Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton. Ford pardoned Nixon and that sent him to the dugout…. And  Bill Clinton unwisely took on the issue of gays in the military early in his Presidency and got election results of losing both houses of Congress in the first off-year elections, never to get them back again while he was in office.

 

            Thus it is in the political world. A poet says “Fame is but a slow decay…” – but in these cases the speed limit has been exceeded handily. Ah well King Solomon said it well… it’s all vanity and chasing after the wind. But then King Solomon didn’t have to pay taxes – he just collected them. If we taxpayers weren’t on the hook for the excesses of government – it would be an interesting show to watch, even if you did have to stand aloof… but someone has to “pay the piper” and the American tax-payer seems to be first in line.

 

            Although – I really should note, America is far, far better off than any other national economy. We just don’t properly realize it – until, possibly, it’s too late. That, for sure, ought to be a matter for our prayers.

“JUST A MINUTE”

CODE BLUE FROM THE E.R.  

Just A Minute – Charlie Rangle, just got his nose tweaked by a usual friend – the Washington Post – who yesterday called for him to step down from his Committee post since his financial report, belatedly filed in the dead of August, is egregiously full of forgetfulness. He forgot about several investment accounts and properties he owned, as well as massive rent collected from Caribbean real estate. All of which added up to a doubling of the veteran Congressman’s net worth – kind of Bernie Madoff writ small.

Meanwhile “Doctor” Obama is summoned to the legislative emergency room for damage control. Congress, on its paid vacation back home in August encountered scream-induced hearing loss, putting his ‘health care – death panels – public option’ legislation on life support. His plunging poll numbers are ignored by major media.

So what’s he doing now? Arranging a joint session of Congress to be televised to the nation’s children – so they may take a test on how they can “help” the President be the President. Sort of a ‘Congress for Clunkers’ exercise.
