Good Day and Welcome to Another week:
Dog days, according to the Almanac, end a week from today on August 11, so mop your brow once more and buckle down to get through it. The Sales Tax Holiday is over – as if there *ever* was a holiday on taxes – and we settle back into the mode of expecting the air to be full of campaign promises about as substantive as the balloon drops we’ll witness watching the major party conventions later this month in Denver for the Democrats, and next month for the GOP in Minneapolis.
The big task is winnowing the wheat from the chaff. My wife and I have been going over our ‘end game’ plan as we know the years left are far, far fewer than the ones we’ve already passed. It’s kind of a new adventure planning what we ought to do – we’ve never been this way before. Our kids are concerned – and so are we, but it’s not a terrifying concern since we’re all Bible-believing Christians – and have committed our lives long ago to Jesus Christ. We say that just because so often our conversations seem to be about staving off death – but seldom do we really contemplate what JOY is promised for those who know the Lord and know what HE has promised in His word. Well.. that’s not what I started out to say today.
What’s on the public menu is How’s the Election Going? And while I think from my side of the grandstand it doesn’t look so hot – it could still be a squeaker. At the same time we know, and rely on the fact the Lord is really in charge, and HE puts up who he will and takes them down the same way. I’ve seen it in my lifetime – and even if I hadn’t I have the testimony of Daniel before Belhazzar plus the Apostle Paul before the Roman authorities – the evidence is all there and we can live confidently. So, I rely on the sure knowledge of two facts: God is great: God is good. From that comes all the knowledge and wisdom to be found about HIS grace, mercy, judgment and righteousness. It’s a wonderful panoply of order and love to contemplate.
Try reading the book of The Revelation – at the very end of the New Testament. It’s only 22 Chapters and takes less time than to watch a movie. Much more there than can be understood from our viewpoint. But this can be said – it gives us a picture of how it all turns out. Like the last chapter in a mystery – we *know* how it ends. And we can make certain where we stand if we wish to.
Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
Just A Minute – Today we re-visit candidate McCain. I understand the criticisms. In Town Halls he’s comfortable, but no fire – no excitement.
What to do? – Re-study Ephesians six and the “whole armour” of God, because we’re in a spiritual and political battle. The ‘sword of the Spirit’ is the ‘Word of God’ utilized in prayer: not for throwing verses at one another – but “praying always s with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit” … persevering. It’s a terrific description of a prayer warrior -- often lost.
Pat Buchanan’s, latest book – “The Unnecessary War” – is revisionist history of WWII and Winston Churchill. Not helpful – especially coupled with his opposition of going into
We need a leader of stature to say, as Barry Goldwater did in
