Good day to you on the beginning of a new week….
Thankfully we had a bit more rain. Did you? At least we don’t have to slide up or down the hill (or in the ditch) on freshly scraped red-clay roads that used to be so plentiful in this part of the world. (J) Makes driving in snow or ice like child’s play -- for those young enough to remember!
Oh, I saw something else that came in over the transom over the weekend. Who knows what Lammas Day is? Anyway… it was yesterday – August First. Lammas Day marks the beginning of the harvest. In old
From the Old English hlaf, “loaf,” and maesse, “mass” or “feast,” Lammas is very old indeed. I learned it from the OLD FARMER’S ALMANAC – They are NOT sponsors… but if you buy an Almanac and mention you heard about it on JUST A MINUTE you might get a smile and a question… and you could always ask them for a “Southern Fitted” copy. They put out regional editions and the one for the southland tells you the times of the tides at the mouth of the Savannah River instead of
I’ve never needed to know that but if I do I guess I’ll know where I can go to find out.
Oh, I also realized the girl who worked so well with the sock puppets on TV for years…
And one more thing from the Almanac – the Dog Days of Summer are due to end on the 11th… Wednesday week…Just thought you’d like to know.
Well… the really interesting stuff is on the air today – gives the status of the general election in November as it stands today between the GOP and the Democrats come November. Not predictions particularly – just where the nose-counters think things are today. You may be interested in them.
But I can’t hang around too much longer… I’m late turning this in already.
Talk with you Wednesday. Bye bye…
Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”
WHO HOLDS THE BALANCE OF POWER THIS FALL?
Just a Minute: -- Here’s John Fund, of the Wall St Journal’s - Opinion Journal with a poll from Public Policy Polling, a Democrat-leaning firm – which says – (quote) “This year, the hands-down winner for the key voting bloc might be called ‘Tea Party Supporter.’ “ (unquote) – a 26 percent size bloc which could be a game-changer.
Fund says this group is mostly white, mostly male but not affiliated with either major party. But they are also mostly angry – and angry with the Democrats holding power in the Executive and the Legislative branches. Public Policy Polling says the GOP, has a 57-19 generic lead right now. He describes it as the (quote) “Angriest segment of the electorate," and says the PPP numbers show it’s – (quote) "Their support fueling the GOP's [present] success…."
The angry group breaks down as 44 percent Republicans, 34 percent Democrats, 21 percent Independents – But only about 35 percent of that angry group calls themselves Tea Partiers and when you poll the electorate, only 25 percent in the whole electorate claims that title.
Confused? I am. ---
Scared? Ask the White House.
