HIT'S WORSER THIS YEAR - Just A Minute Radio for Wednesday 01-13-09

            Hello Again… Here we are in the middle of the week…

 

            Almost in the middle of the first month – it comes Saturday or Sunday… and we’re skating on ice in lots of places here and up north.  I think the same slippery feeling in the feet must be affecting the Administration and the Congress as they prepare to take up their task of solving the mandated health care crisis they have created for themselves.

 

            I’m not one to greatly adhere to the “I told you so…” line.  We all make mistakes.  But I think the one that’s about to take the majority in Congress down like an ice patch you didn’t see coming when you started down the front steps, is their persistent concentration on what the President says *must* be their prime concern. It  isn’t – at least from what we can tell -- the safety of our nation.  He just seems fixated on getting this health care thing done no matter what the cost or result.

 

            The feeling I have is the same one that struck about a month after Mr. Obama’s inaugural about a year ago.  Then came the mammoth ‘Stimulus’ package that just *had* to be enacted or the financial world would come to an end.  It seems like we’ve had several waves of that during the past ten months or so.  Everything is a crisis that must be handled NOW!

 

            Then comes the ‘underwear bomber’ trying to blow one of the Amsterdam-to-Detroit flights out of the air – that would have likely killed a couple of hundred people – and it becomes clear (at least to me) where our attention needs to be focused in fact RE-focused.  We can’t depend on the incompetence of underwear bombers to preserve our national security. – The President after several days and several TV speeches returns to “Green Jobs.”  Green Jobs is NOT first on my list.  Safety and protection of American lives is.  Unless I deliberately mis- read what I see and sense on the national scene, that’s approximately the same way most American’s weigh up the issues.  I really don’t know what it takes to get attention directed to the right target – but I sense re-direction and better understanding better be expressed soon!

 

            At the same time… I’m NOT worried. I’m not worried about my future or that of my family because of our faith in the Lord.  It’s not the *primary* task of this program to be evangelistic or conduct a prayer meeting.  Those are excellent activities in my book… and we carry them on.  So I am content and to use St. Paul’s words… I’ve learned in whatsoever state I am therewith to be content.  But I’m not willing to see the danger ahead and maintain silence.  God IS in control.  And HE expects us to put the minds HE has given to good use.  I’m satisfied with that.  I also wish and urge that for you and your family too.  Then – no matter what – we *will* have a Happy New Year!  God bless you.

Jack: I sorta do.

BB: We’s bin memberin frum our old notebook.

MizP: So whut you memberin’?

Homer: Las year ‘bout this time Billy-bob an I decided to show up at tranisposition office.

BB: Mr. ‘Bama’s *team* was a- pickin’ his Cabnet.

Jack: Did you have success.

Homer: Akshully we coundint git inna door.

BB: Place was a-crawlin’ wif people…

MizP: But summa them assistant positions they ain’t filled yet.

Homer: Yea th’ man they done nominated ta hed th’ TSA – th’ airport ‘spection people…

BB: Well turns out he done looked inta th’ FBandI files…

MizP: Th’ ones that’s s’pose ta' be kep secret?

BB: At’s th’ ones – hit was ‘bout his ex-wife er girl fren er sumpin …

Homer: Tha-ut gits you fired if’n you’s caught.

BB: Ennyway – The Prezdint din’t nominate him ‘till September …

Homer: An…them Demicrat senators rally round ta' proteck him.

BB: Jist like las year -- a real mess.

Homer: We tried ta' git in on one of them steak dinners at the White House… but Mr. Bama wasn’t                Prezident yet – so we din’t git in.  

MizP: You shudda waited ‘till this year… they’s had severul uninvited guests.

Jack: But it wasn’t a steak dinner – it was a STATE dinner.

BB: Homer… I tole you you was a-sayin,’ hit wrong.

Homer: Well Mr. Bama won’t there – an we fegot you cain’t buy no bus ticket ta' Honolululu …

BB: But I heered him say then th’ first day he’d close Guantanamo.

MizP: Ah was worried them terreristers mite git loose in Playfair.

Homer: He promised…

BB: Yeah But he promised ta' let C-Spam git in on health care conferences too.  But he din’t …

Homer: Tha-ut was campainin… this is *diffrunt.*

MizP: Well hit shore shunt be!

BB: We’s in th process of findin’ tha-ut out.
