THE STORIES OF MICHELLE AND WESLEY -- Just a Minute for Thursday July 3rd, 2008

Hello Again Folks…

We’re closer to firecracker day.  I’m intrigued by how John Adams thought July 4th might be celebrated. It was originally printed on that date…but signed by various members of the Founding Fathers on different dates. Here’s what he wrote to Abigail on July 3rd 1776 – from Philadelphia:

"It ought to be commemorated," said the man who would become our second president, "as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more”.

I guess that hardly comes close to what we do tomorrow… but it give a glint of the idea they had developed – and which changed into a long, hard-fought battle for Amerca’s future.

We’re somewhat engaged in the same struggle now. It requires our prayers and attention. I’ll write no more for now. God bless you all as you prepare for the National Holiday.

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

MICHELLE AND GEN. CLARK

Just A Minute – I started out quoting Senator Obama’s Monday speech in Harry Truman’s home town of Independence, Missouri as carried on the CNN web site -- Defending Barak’s patriotism, they quote the point at which Obama's wife, Michelle, told an audience: (quote) "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country." They offered in her defense that she was excited

But “Patriotism,” said Obama, “… must involve the willingness to sacrifice.” And there he called attention to the military service of Senator McCain the presumptive Republican candidate. And added (quote) : “[I … learned that what makes America great has never been its perfection, but the belief that it can be made better."

Meanwhile, CNN said  McCain's campaign called on Obama’s to condemn comments from retired Gen. Wesley Clark, who said this past weekend …(quote)… “McCain’s service in Vietnam did not necessarily mean that he was qualified to serve as commander-in-chief.” CNN identifies retired Gen. Wesley Clark as a military adviser for Obama.

Now tell me – Who’s playing offense and who’s playing defense?
