Howdy –
If you tried to watch the markets this week it was like being caught in a Laundromat watching five washers go to it at once. And if you read some of the blogs and “letters” columns on the Internet… you could get real scared for the future not only of the economy but of the Nation.
That’s why the safest thing to do is of a spiritual and eternal nature – not of a temporal or ‘just for today’ attitude. That attitude is a bucket full of holes.
The options for future government actions that will actually work in the reasonably near term seem to actually move away rather than improve chances for recovery. That sounds awfully pessimistic – and I’m writing in the dead, vast and middle of the night (to borrow a Shakespearian phrase) which doesn’t recommend an improved outlook.
But I do expect the sun to come up over the eastern horizon in the morning – and I know God is still on the throne of the Universe HE created. So I have every reason to be confident both for the short and the long run. That’s not going to be true for everyone. And those are the factors that are out of *our* control – but not God’s.
Last evening I saw a representation of Moses…a one man dramatic production by a good friend, Doug Whitley – who makes a ministry of portraying Biblical characters. He does a good job of it – and it’s difficult. Just think of trying to cram a career that covered 120 years into about 40 minutes. You have to go from bull rushes to “almost” entering the Promised Land of Canaan after putting up with the grumbling and problems of three million people needing to pull up stakes and leave
But in God’s economy *nothing* is impossible. And it’s awfully hard for mortals to recognize that. One fundamental way to keep in tune with what’s really happening is continually to refresh your mind with a daily study of Scripture.
OK… ‘nuff said for this day. Go look for the

“JUST A MINUTE”
THE NEWEST ‘TELETRONIC STAR’
JACK: JUST A MINUTE – Everybody listen up -- Today we have a special guest.
TPR: You left out “star” – You promised me STAR billing.
JACK: Right… we’ll get to that…we’re not past the first 10 seconds yet.
TPR: OK…
JACK: For everyone to understand you… you have to go slowly and clearly.
TPR: Don’t tell me … I know what I’m doing.
JACK: But you have contributed to some BIG snafus.
TPR: With the Irish guy? That was a technician’s fault … not mine.
JACK: Shall I introduce you as Telli?
TPR: Telli-star… That would be nice.
JACK: TelStar’s already taken -- we’d be sued.
TPR: OK, but don’t use up all the time
JACK: What’s it like to travel on Air Force One?
TPR: I expected to sit up with Gibbsey – Oh It was a bit embarrassing when the
BIG GUY introduced himself this week.
JACK: Got a laugh...
TPR: The Irish PM caught on right away. Sometimes the Boss is a little slow.
JACK: You shouldn’t say that.
TPR: What’s he gonna do – fire me?
JACK: You remember when Bush said --- “Great job Brownie…?”
TPR: After Katrina … that didn’t get a laugh. Just remember if he says
“Geithner’s doing a great job…” that’s not supposed to get a laugh.
JACK: OK… have you approached Senator Grassley?
TPR: -- The Suicide guy…?.
JACK: Or Senator Dodd... he could use you.
TPR: Look, none of those Congressional guys think they need any help!
JACK: OK Telli -- I’m sure we’ll be seeing your work… -- I’m Jack Buttram
