WHASAMATTER NOW? - Just A Minute radio for Wednesday 01-07-09BB#01HomerSnafu

Howdy folks… and welcome to wet and soggy country around here –

But we don’t really mind because *we need it* -- Lake Hartwell, as far as the reports I get take me, is still more than 12 or 13 feet below full pond level. And I believe that still presents hazards to boats… and probably most to sailboats with deep keels. Anyway – I hope that’s not a complication for your life today. We have enough as it is with the three ring circus going on inside the beltway, with side acts in Chicago and Minnesota.

We have had turbulent times in our history I know. But it is relatively brief when viewed in the light of say Chinese history – or even England or Europe. I recall being somewhat set aback when our tour guide at Stratford describing the thatched roof – and thatch strewn floor – of the cottage which is presented as Shakespeare’s home at Stratford Upon Avon; I recall the young lady saying rather offhandedly, “This house has been in continual use for more than 400 years…”  Which set me to thinking: That takes us back to Jamestown in U.S. history… and the Brits are just ‘getting warmed up’ with theirs – when compared with some of the dynastic reigns of the Far East.

I suppose the Chinese are quite right in assuming the title for their country “Chung-hwa” – the “Middle Kingdom” because indeed it was in the middle of that vast continent and counting its days in a rather off-handed way when comparing itself to the ‘barbarians’ – a convenient title to take in everybody in view who was *not* Chinese.

There’s no mistaking the barbarian nature of war. One only needs to take in a few TV pictures to get the scope of where things drift down to when there is no major power who takes a realistic interest in the battles for power and pomp in the world today – and for that matter to all the kingdoms that have gone before whose power in rooted in human strength.

Sobering thoughts for a sober time. I’m not trying to spread doom and gloom, But it’s obvious the world order when left to itself seems to drift into chaos with great ease – and be brought out with much pathos and self sacrifice for the rest of us. Let us be in prayer for wisdom as the leaders of the free world ponder and if they are wise, invite the Lord into their deliberations.

            Cordially, IN HIM
