HOW COME EVERYBODY'S SO QUITE? - Just a Minute Radio for Wednesday 120523

Mr. Booker – friend of Mr. Obama, apparently inadvertently got “off the reservation” so far as the Obama administration tallies it. Mr. Booker, without thinking praised some of the private equity moves made recently (including Mr. Romney and Bain) – and the Obama machine had a knee jerk reaction to the apparent friendship between Mr. Booker and some of the targets of Mr. Obama’s stump speech rhetoric given at a graduation ceremony.

Mr. Booker thought it “nauseating” and somewhat “boring” that such a big deal should be made over a faux pas – but found within 24 hours he was on the wrong side of the coin and should have taken the opposite stance.

Public criticism of the ‘boss’ is severely frowned upon and Mr. Booker was hard pressed to ‘walk back’ what had been directed at some of Mr. Obama’s friends and cohorts.  I’m sure the hole in the wall will be papered over shortly – meantime there’s a LOT of confusion in the Booker – Obama camp – Which I’m sure will be corrected and the Republic will be righted -- but we shall have another experiment in learning how to erase from memory statements that were delivered in error. They should be able to repair the damage – although the faux-pas may well be indelible and impossible to erase.

A mistake “oh Heaven forfend!”  The Obama administration does NOT make errors! Slight miscalculations or expressions perhaps – infrequently… but a gross error like this… no never!

Well, we shall just have to see just how many gallons of “White Out” it takes completely eradicate a (oh heavens—mistake?) – but we don’t make misteaks!? Do we?  I know it’s not permitted in MY style book. See, it’s hard to explain what “White Out” is to greenhorns who’ve never seen a typewriter, much less carbon paper or means erasing an error.

We shall just have to wait and see how much damage may have been done. Meantime… “ONWARD”  … or is it “Forward?”

Either shall do!

ANY LOBBYISTS BEEN SEEN AROUND HERE -- Just a Minute Radio for Tuesday 120522

Great day to be alive and trottin’ right along.

The race is picking up steam a little bit. Looks like Mr. Obama hasn’t laid in all the cash he figures he’ll need to beat Mr. Romney.  Neither has Mr. Romney the number of greenbacks he’s going to need to win this race.  But there’s close to six months left to do all that. And lots of steam on both sides to do it with..

Senator McCain didn’t spend nearly as much as Mr. Obama did in 2008. That’s one of the reasons for the big win.  But I don’t think it would have been a great deal different even if they had the same amount of dollars. Mr. Obama was on a roll…and little could be done to stop him

This time it’s quite different. I don’t really think Mr. Obama and his confident crew from the DNC are going to be able to turn him aside from a good race. He’s saying he’s going to go big time. But the signs don’t look that way to experienced observers.

Predictions don’t do much but raise the air temperature.  And we don’t really need that. The cheering crowds on both sides will supply the heat. And making predictions – I’ve found out – is not something I’m very good at. I’ll tell you something though that Mr. Romney is good at – raising $$$ and allocating them strategically. Beyond that he has several things going for him.

He already knows what it’s like to lose – but in his win in Massachusetts, he knows too, what it takes to win. In that way Romney has a BIG advantage but one he’ll have to work at.

So… It’s close to the witching hour here tonight in Greenville… so I’ve a lot to do yet this week. Stick with us and we’ll try to be both entertaining and informative. But we really need for you to be doing every day for yourself and for our country. We ALL need to be praying. In my view that is THE key… WE can do nothing more effective than to go into our prayer closet – empty our minds of all other concerns – and pray. That will do more GOOD for this campaign than ANYTHING else.

Well… good night – and as a talented newsman I respected even as a little kid listening to the radio – I can still hear him saying: GOOD NIGHT,, AND GOODLUCK!

You can leave the ‘GOOD LUCK’ part off… the Lord takes care of that – what God wants (and it is God’s son who’s talking to you)  He wants YOU to be putting your trust in HIM and getting the best information from HIS word THE BIBLE.  Do it – Friend!

Cordially, IN HIM,

Jack & Barbara

“JUST A MINUTE”

ANY LOBBYISTS BEEN SEEN AROUND HERE?

Just a Minute: Are lobbyists real or imaginary?

Instructions enunciated by the President on the West Lawn of the White House in January 2009, recorded in White House visitors’ logs kept by White House Security detail assigned to the President’s quarters actually record lobbyists coming and going and are even published in the Washington Post.

Are lobbyists real or imaginary troll-like figures left over from Grimm Fairy tales? I cannot reconciled the police records with the orders issued, by the President or with the records that have come to light via legal action supplied to the Police Detail responsible for Presidential security.

Mr. Obama pledged to the whole world lobbyists would no longer darken the halls of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. I definitely recall President Obama on inauguration day pronouncing anathema upon such beings and promising a purge would be undertaken to remove them -- period.

What is to be done about these flagrant violations of Presidential pledges? Possibly you wish to communicate with the President about this. Up to now I have had no success whatsoever.

WE NEED AN IMPENETRIBLE FIRE WALL-- Just a Minite Radio for Monday 120521

I don’t know if it’s a beautiful day in Chicago or not. My Internet has been blocked by somebody wavin’ a placard. But that’s the ‘Windy City’ – you don’t always get a wind that blows nobody good from out of the Pacific Garden Mission – because there’s a lot of dedicated people who work there and deserve to be remembered and thanked for what’s often a somewhat thankless job.  But a very necessary job nonetheless.

Well – that’s intended to be a free ‘plug’ for “Unshackled” which is the longest running radio drama program in the history of this planet!  At least I haven’t been to any other planets to find out if they are broadcasting there.

We went to a baccalaureate Sunday and it’s inspiring to see the folks that are trying to get their education wrapped up or at least kicked on down the road a little further. (That’s intended to be encouraging.) But sometimes things just go slow and you have to back up and regroup and make sure you’re pointed at the right target. I think  we’re generally on the right target – but it takes a little fine tuning sometime. Can we all agree on that.

We also have suffered the loss of one of our pets since last week. Our orange tabby cat “Ollie” either left home for other parts or somebody ‘catnapped’ him. I hope that’s not the case. In any case – Ollie had his problems of scratching things that didn’t need scratching. But… that’s cats. I tried to discourage him – but without success. Ollie – boy I hope you’re happy wherever you are hiding or abiding, or just decided it was time to move on. That’s how you came.  And I hope you didn’t get hurt in that’s how you went.

Well… it’s getting to the midnight hour before too long. And  keep making the promise I’ll get more uninterrupted sleep.  So… I better get to it.

Tha…tha…that’s all folks. Ooops … that’s Porky Pig’s sign off.  Well at least it’s good humored.

See you tomorrow.

WE NEED AN IMPENETRIBLE FIRE WALL

Just a Minute: Beyond the conclusion of the New Testament’s history book – The Acts of the Apostles, we come to the longest and most systematically reasoned of the epistles of the Apostle Paul. I look to it because as we struggle with the problems of government corruption and people doing the exact opposite of what they say they’re going to do. I keep looking for an ‘all purpose’ preventative.

What springs to my mind is Romans 3 verses 9 & 10: (quote) …” for we have before proved [both Jews and Gentiles] that they are all under sin … There is none righteous, no, not one:”

This in turn calls to mind British Scholar Lord John Acton’s dictum: “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Coupled with Edmund Burke’s observation: “The greater the power the more dangerous the abuse. “  We turn again to the central point uttered by Lord Acton that: “There is no worse heresy then, that the office sanctifies the holder of it.”

We risk our Republic if we grant unrestricted power into anyone’s hands.

THE VERY ASTUTE *WILL SMITH*! -- Just A Minute Radio for Friday 120518

Interesting news that comes today via a short cut through the Movie/TV world in Paris.

Will Smith – native of Philadelphia, one who has garnered double handfuls of movie and TV roles that have given him HI FIVES in the entertainment world was over in the ‘City of Lights’ this week and appearing on French TV  --  (with English translation I presume) – he seemed somewhat taken aback to find that were he living in France and paying French Income tax his tab would be something on the order of 75 percent of his take-home pay.

From the short note taken in the editorial pages of the WSJ I gathered Mr. Smith was rather startled to learn he would have to fork over 75% of his earnings rather than the 30% or so he had come to expect.

Well it’s a long road that “has no turning” as my dear Aunt Lucy was often heard repeating.

I recall watching my Dad suffering over figuring income tax at the dining room table with papers spread far and wide. Innocent me wandered into the milieu and innocently asked what he was doing.

Filling out an the income tax he said…  and I asked why. “Because I have to.” He replied

What’s it for? I wanted to know.

It’s “income tax!” – he said with some agitation.

But what for – why?

Because I make income!

You mean they charge you tax just for making money?

Exactly!

Well… I could hardly believe it… take money because you make money --- seemed unfair to me.  --  Well, honestly – it still does. I also couldn’t see how it was \, or why it was they taxed open land…. But when you build something on it a house and/or a barn – then you had to pay more!  How does that work out.

I guess in those days I was smarter. (J)

I hope you have a great weekend. See you Monday.

THE VERY ASTUTE -- WILL SMITH

Just a Minute: Leading Actor Will Smith -- has charmed himself into a new Hall of Fame niche in the French entertainment world.

He’s a product of northwest Philadelphia, winner of much admiration and many film awards, and gave an interview within the past week on French TV.  He expressed with vigor his appreciation for America saying: “I have no issue with paying taxes and whatever needs to be done for my country to grow. … I’m a black man who didn’t go to college, yet I get to travel around the world and sell my movies, and I believe very firmly that America is the only place on Earth that I could exist so I will pay anything that I need to pay to keep my country growing….”

Asked by an Interviewer: Do you know how much in France you would have to pay on earnings above one million euros? Not 30 %. 75%.

Smith:”75%? Yeah, that’s different that’s different. Yeah 75. Well…you know, God bless America.”

To which we add: Indeed, indeed, May God continue to bless America.

MR. OBAMA DEDICATED TO 'INVESTMENTS'! -- WATCH! -- Just A Minute Radio for Thursday 120517

Spring is coming on apace… as they used to say in Shakespeare’s place.

However, all is not calm in Washington town. Mr. O continues to rub Mr. B (the House Leader) the wrong way and we may as well look for stormy weather coming in the Summertime.

I watched a “storm chaser’s’’ program Monday, I think it was and it’s not a job I want. I used to fly airplanes *around* those clouds – or ‘over them’ if I was riding commercial.  But nowadays between TSA and the continual alerts and other threats for airplane riding – not to mention some of the outlandish extra fees that have been tacked on to commercial air travel…. Well there’s no such thing as THE FRIENDLY SKIES as there used to be.

The underwear bombers have spoiled the scenery and pleasure of flying. Add to that the extra fees for ice water or a blanket or a pillow and you wonder if there’s not a “Scrooge” airline in the hangar awaiting it’s launching soon.

It’s the middle of the week and I’ve got to get busy with some new contacts that got messed up because of the connection problems of the last two weeks. So… Have to sign off early.

Drop me a note when you have the time and the urge and I’ll note you right back. (J)

 “JUST A MINUTE”

MR. OBAMA DEDICATED TO “INVESTMENTS!” – WATCH IT.

Just a Minute: Mr. Obama calls government spending: ‘INVESTMENTS’. The Wall St. Journal says he is so eager to make this point his rhetoric takes him beyond his capability and expertise as it did recently in Seattle.

Do you recall Al Gore taking credit for ‘inventing the internet?’ Well observe carefully because Mr. Obama takes credit for DARPA [Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency] – as something he’s responsible for and that wouldn’t be around had he not pushed it.

Listen to this quote: “There’s no Facebook, there’s no Microsoft, there’s no Google if we had not made the common investment in our future.”

Darpa is not engaged in commercializing products – its job is funding basic research -- not sliding that into developing the business side of the effort.  That’s how billions of dollars were lost in the Solyndra commercialization.  Failing to recognize the difference – ignorance – is how the American taxpayers lost billions of tax revenue which should never have happened.

This is why we need a President who is wise not one saturated in ignorance.

NOBODY SAID IT WOULD BE EASY -- DIG IN! -- Just a Minute Radio.blogspot.com for Wednesday 120516

Great to have you on board this week.

Like I said earlier it’s like getting your car out of the shop when it’s been in for two weeks. I never have had the same amount of recalcitrant response from a couple of the ‘recalcitrant ISP’ crowd… and hope not to have it again. But it may happen and I’m finding out that though I’ve been buying and using (or stumbling around with) computers for more than thirty years now – there are still things I have no idea why they work (or more likely why they *don’t* work) and so I must depend upon my grandsons who are not always available to pull me out of the computer morass.

Well…I’ll learn someday. I want to get good enough to write sensibly and so people will want to read it – but right now I’m at the bottom of the pit of accomplishment and will have to cut new steps in the cave wall to get out I  suppose. In any case… griping about it does not get the job done!  That much I know… and getting back in the groove somehow is not beyond capability if I can just reign in my exasperation at the failures I experience. (I couldn’t have safely piloted a plane like this… computers ARE CONQUERABLE! – I think!)

But we’re in the middle of a presidential campaign and I think it’s important to be able to communicate well in these troublous times.  So bear with me if you can.

I’ve mentioned it before – but for your interest I’ll say again that I do think a source of information that’s pretty accurate and doesn’t cost you an arm or leg (or anything so far) is the Rasmussen Reports – that are posted daily around 9:30 AM and turn out to be pretty accurate for a couple of reasons.  [www.rasmussenreports.com]

First they are surveying (in most instances or questions) *likely* voters.  Rather than just picking out a randomized sample by age gender and I would guess location. In checking the results predicted with the actual results themselves… they come closer than the news organizations etc. because biases creep in there and distort the outcome. They also vary day by day – but don’t seem to take the wild sweeps that happen to other polling businesses…and I can’t always figure those out either.  I think it has something to do with who is paying for the poll and what for.

Well. Better get ready for the rest of the week.  And we still have the conventions ahead of us – which I don’t see as swinging wildly from left to right etc. They are more like streams that continue to flow in line with rainfall and gradients etc.  So… be patient and don’t do what I have often done – let my enthusiasm get in the way of seeing what’s really happening.

OK… almost the witching hour… got to get on with life as it is not as I might wish it to be.

Best to you all…Remember HE has said “I will never leave you nor forsake you!”  That is predicated on trusting in HIM. If you want that unpacked or examined I’ll be glad to discuss it with you as you wish.

All the best… IN HIM

Cordially, IN HIM

MR. OBAMA DOESN'T KNOW COAL IS A FOSSIL FUEL -- Just A Minute Radio for Tuesday 120515

Glad you’re here with us on this lovely day. Have you gotten enough rain and thunder for the present?

It seems I can neither get the grass cut nor the plants properly watered – but then I’ve been sort of ‘traveling behind the eight-ball’ since the beginning of May.  Now I’m trying to get things straightened up a bit and expect to see some improvement in the place… particularly my office and the clutter I *know* resides in my computer.

Often recently we’ve come across a phrase “leading from behind” – and I don’t exactly know what it means – but I’m working on it!

I guess it falls along the line of either being a reluctant person to take the reins of what’s supposed to being steered – or feeling you don’t want the criticism that comes from making a wrong decision.

But isn’t that what ‘leadership’ is about?  Do some people just want to lead because of the prominence of the office, or the money or just what?  I have a tough time just sorting out what it is I’m meaning to convey. Especially since my fingers lately just don’t want to hit the lively keys. It’s not that I don’t know where the proper keys are … it’s just that I seem unable to get my right hand (the left hand seems to be on ‘auto pilot and does a better job than the right in rendering accurate text.) Looks like about sixty years after learning the basics [but apparently never sticking to the typing tests which should have ironed things out] making errors seems to be worse.

I put something in the blog the other day wondering if someone can share their experiences with either MS Word Perfect (In typing text for publication.) or having purchased “Dragon” from Amazon.com or some vendor and cold tell me what seems to work best for them  in turning speech into text -- and any tips they may have learned.

Typing is still something I’ve been trying to master ever since coming to college – but I never paused long enough to get my speed up to standard. Well… it’s just a thought… send me an e-mail if you have the time.

Nice to have you al hear – would love to hear from you.  [Jebco1311@bellsouth.net] is the location…I’ll get back to you.

All the best… IN HIM

Jack

“JUST A MINUTE”

MR. OBAMA DOESN’T KNOW COAL IS A FOSSIL FUEL

Just a Minute: Living on the downhill side of the Blue Ridge as a teen in Virginia – I had no question when feeling the ground shake as the N&W coal trains thundered down the grade on their way from West Virginia to Norfolk. But recently Mr. Obama left fossil fuels completely off his list of energy sources.

Does he pick ignorance as a goal to be achieved – like leaving the ‘Canada to Gulf’ pipeline off the list, as if it was deliberately ignored? The USA is often called the Saudi Arabia of the world’s coal and shale resources.

That’s just one of the multitude of apparent omissions our President overlooks when he’s supposed to be leading. Maybe it’s an acquired title used by Washington journalists called “leading from behind.”  It looks as if the voters in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and the shale deposits of energy out west are going to have to do their own job of educating the chief executive.

I’m sure you’ll hear a LOT more about it between now and November 6th. <> I’m Jack Buttram. (END)
